How to survive--and thrive--as a lecturer at Berkeley

Event date and time:
Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - 6:30am to 8:00am
Location:
34 Dwinelle Hall, Berkeley campus
Event description:

This 90-minute workshop is for pre-six lecturers and all other Unit 18 faculty such as field coordinators and teachers of special programs.

Pre-six means you have taught 12 semesters or less, you have not yet passed an excellence review, and you do not yet have a continuing appointment. Continuing appointees are also warmly invited to come and share advice and experience with junior colleagues.

This workshop is broader than the review workshop previously scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, though there is some overlap.  Some may wish to attend both.

We will discuss

* what you need to know about the lecturers' contract and university policy concerning reappointment/reviews;
* how to build a strong teaching record now, and improve your chances of reappointment and passing an excellence review;
* how to communicate effectively with department administrators;
* what campus and union resources are available to support you.

Please bring your questions, your concerns, and your thoughts on goals for future contract improvements.
