UC-AFT Statement Opposing Neil Gorsuch Confirmation as Supreme Court Justice

Judge Neil Gorsuch's judicial record reveals that he has ruled repeatedly in favor of corporations and against workers, against the Affordable Care Act, and against Planned Parenthood and women's rights to contraception. Given his record both as a judge and as a Deputy Associate Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice during the Bush administration, he is likely to issue opinions that are even farther to the right than those of his conservative mentor, Antonin Scalia. His testimony during his confirmation hearing was clearly intended to obscure his deeply held right-wing beliefs. As a member of the Koch-brothers funded Federalist Society, he is likely to further the Federalist Society agenda of decimating unions’ and workers’ rights, expanding gun rights, overturning Roe v. Wade, dismantling the Voting Rights Act, perpetuating the flood of dark money into our electoral system, and protecting corporate wealth and power. For these reasons, we oppose Gorsuch's nomination and urge the Senate to reject it.
