Financial Support

Through our contract campaigns, we have fought to raise wages for all teaching faculty and librarians at the University of California. Working together, we have raised the minimum full-time instructional salary for Unit 18 Teaching Faculty over 200%, from $28,000 in 2000 to over $68,000 in 2023. In our current Unit 17 Librarians contract campaign, we’re fighting for increases at every point on the salary scale as well as a me-too clause to match any general range salary adjustment given to our non-represented librarian peers and colleagues. Learn more about our proposals at uclibrarians.org.

But in the same years, the cost of living in the State of California has increased dramatically. Our UC campuses are located in communities where the housing crisis has been most acute, making it difficult for all of us to afford to live in the communities where we work and teach. The costs of healthcare, rents and mortgages, and even staple goods have exploded, forcing many of our colleagues to confront agonizing financial decisions and, sometimes, to leave UC.

As a member of UC-AFT, you have access to various forms of financial support that can help. Learn more below or get involved with your local chapter to join our fight for the fair compensation we deserve.
