“Lecturers’ union insists that humans teach UC classes,” Davis Enterprise (5/1/26)

On April 16, our Unit 18 Table Team passed their proposal for a new article on Technology in the Classroom (read more about the article here). Asked for comment on the bargaining session, David Skolnick (UC Berkeley) described the UC’s response: “they couldn’t answer the basic questions over security, over privacy, over durability, and management of recordings. Also, they couldn’t answer whether there was some way to tell whether these devices were on, even if the request was that they’d be off, there’s no way really to tell whether those recordings are being made or not. We were cut out of the loop on something that directly affected our working conditions and the privacy and security of our students, especially in this day and age, when the federal government is targeting our students.” Read more at the Davis Enterprise
