Bargaining Dates Set...Important Details Remain Unresolved

Share

UCLA Lab School has Bargaining Dates!
Now we need confirmation from UC on the scope of negotiations, open (public) bargaining, and full participation by Principal Lazo.

  • Save the Date: Our first bargaining session is Wednesday, August 10 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. To show your solidarity, please plan to join us for any part of the day you are available.
  • The University has not yet agreed to bargain a full range of topics. You can read our UC-AFT Executive Director’s letter to Anthony Solana from UCLA Labor Relations, which argues that we do have the right to negotiate a full contract similar to the robust contracts negotiated by Geffen Academy and The Preuss School UC San Diego.
  • Twenty-five of our twenty-seven current Demonstration Teacher UC-AFT members signed a letter to our Principal Georgia Lazo asking her to support our efforts to get to the bargaining table.
  • Please read our July 11 letter to Principal Lazo and her response. As a result of our collective action and solidarity, we have set bargaining dates!
  • We have been informed there will likely be two representatives from Ed&IS and/or Lab School, one Academic Personnel Office representative, one UCLA Labor Relations representative, and the outside lawyer hired by UCLA Labor Relations. It is highly unusual for the University to pay an outside attorney to lead the negotiations.
  • Principal Lazo has not yet committed to being at the bargaining table. We would like to work with Principal Lazo in these negotiations as did administrators like Head of School Sibyll Carnochan Catalan from Geffen Academy at UCLA and Chief Administrative Officer Karin Marsolais from The Preuss School UC San Diego. We are calling on Principal Lazo to participate actively in the process and facilitate timely negotiations for a fair contract.
  • Our UCLA Lab School UC-AFT Bargaining Team has been ready to bargain since February. Given the dates provided by the University on July 12, 2022, the first date all parties would be available is August 10th.
  • We have communicated how important it is for negotiating sessions to be open to our whole UCLA Lab School community.
