UC-AFT Executive Board Election Results

At our Spring Council meeting on April 3, the UC-AFT Council unanimously re-elected all  systemwide executive board officers for another one-year term of office.  

After the election, Council attendees gave a round of applause to all officers for their tireless and exceptional work on behalf of UC-AFT members.  

UC-AFT President, Bob Samuels, was recognized for his central role in the movement to resist privatization and to demand accountability at UC.  In addition to being a core organizer of events and protests at UCLA over the last year, Bob has recently published numerous articles in the Huffington Post and on his blog focusing on transparency and accountability at UC.  Here's a link to Bob's blog: http://changinguniversities.blogspot.com/

UC-AFT V.P. of Grievances, Alan Karras, works closely with staff and members across the state to resolve grievances and to ensure that members are treated fairly.  Alan spends countless hours assisting members in meetings and in negotiations with UCOP and campus labor relations staff.  

UC-AFT V.P. of Organizing, Mike Rotkin, spent a significant amount of time this year as the Unit 17 (librarians) chief negotiator.  This years negotiations process involved record numbers of librarians from each campus.  Despite the current budget issues, early rounds of negotiations yielded some important gains.

UC-AFT V.P. of Legislation, Axel Borg, immediately after begin appointed as Ben Harder's successor, helped garner support for and ultimately helped ensure passage of the state audit of UCOP's use of public funds and student fees.

UC-AFT Secretary/Treasurer, Miki Goral, was acknowledged for her commitment to keeping the UC-AFT in good fiscal shape and for her prompt and thorough work on finances.
