Lecturer Bargaining…Lively Preliminary Session at UCI
Successor (full contract) bargaining began with a preliminary session at UCI on January 30. Both sides shared very general expressions of interest in changes we’d like to see in the contract. Chief Negotiator and UC-AFT President, Mia McIver, delivered a powerful opening statement (video), and we had statements of support and personal stories from members, senate faculty and student allies. Read the full bargaining update for more detail.

Love Your Librarian DayHadMeAtSolidarity.jpg
We took to social media on Valentine’s Day with the hashtag #LoveYourLibrarian carrying messages of solidarity to our bargaining team and to the labor community at UC and beyond. We also tagged UL’s and library accounts to make sure the administration gets the message. Our members are standing behind our demands, including getting UC to put a real salary proposal on the table at the next session! Big ups to UC Davis Lecturer and Unit 18 Contract Campaign Committee member, Erika Strandjord, for the graphics!

Statewide Council Officer Elections…Nominations Period Open Now!
Our constitution calls for annual election of our statewide Council Executive Board officers: President, V.P. for Legislation, V.P. for Grievances, V.P. for Organizing and Secretary/Treasurer. The nominations period for the annual election is open now.

In addition, we are conducting a special election to fill a vacancy in our V.P. for Legislation position. The nominations period for the special election will close February 22, when candidate statements will be posted to the UC-AFT website. All details for these elections are available in this Call for Nominations.

Advocacy Day in Sacramento April 2…Registration Deadline Feb. 28
UC-AFT members will gather in Sacramento on April 2 to meet with legislators and raise awareness about our issues in the State Capitol. Our goal is to have fifteen people with representatives from each campus. The registration deadline is February 28. Contact your local officers for registration details.
