Protecting American Workers, the Middle Class and Your Right To a Union

UC-AFT now has a webpage devoted to resources that will help prepare our members to have informed and fact based conversations about the impact of public sector collective bargaining on California’s budget deficit, about the benefits of collective bargaining for union and non-union workers, about the forces that are really driving the Republican attack on the public sector and our unions, and finally, about the effects of the right’s agenda on the quality of life of middle and working class Americans.  Follow this link to the new webpage:

UC Regent, David Crane, Wants to Eliminate Your Union

The attack on public sector unions isn’t limited to the Midwest, or even to fledgling free market groups in California.  One of the newest members of our own UC Board of Regents is advocating for the elimination of public sector unions.  UC-AFT is working with the UC Union Coalition to block Mr. Crane’s confirmation as a Regent.  We have also supported a reform proposal that would democratize the selection of Regents and stop the positions from being abused as a form political payback.
