Transition Plan Merit Increase Settlement 3% Retroactive Pay Increase

Share

The new Teaching Faculty (Unit18) contract includes a sideletter called the Transition Plan that provides a transition between old language and new language in the first two years of the new contract.

Our old contract provided an automatic 6% increase upon reappointment to a 7th semester, 10th quarter or 13th fiscal year term. If you were reappointed to your 7th semester, 10th quarter or 13th fiscal year term during AY 22-23, you are probably eligible for a 3% pay increase retroactive to July 1, 2022.

Our new contract provides a 3% increase upon reappointment after the first year, and another 3% increase upon reappointment to a fourth year. The new language is better because we get some of the increase sooner!

Unfortunately, the language we negotiated in the Transition Plan for how pre-continuing merit/reappointment increases would work included an apparent conflict between two clauses.

This conflict resulted in many people receiving 3% increases in July 2022, when they should have received 6% increases.

UC-AFT and UCOP have negotiated an addendum to the Transition Plan to clarify eligibility for the 6% increase retroactive to July 1, 2022. If you taught or are teaching your 7 semester, 10th quarter or 13th fiscal year term, you are likely eligible for a retroactive 3% salary increase.
