UC-AFT Statement on the Capitol Invasion
Our Executive Board and the Chairs of our Anti-Racism and Policing committees released this statement on January 7. The statement calls for removal of President Trump from office, a full investigation into the failure of preparation by Capitol police and accountability for those who incited and committed violence at the Capitol on January 6.

Teaching Faculty Bargaining Update & January Bargaining Dates
We met with management on November 12 and 18 and again on December 16 and 17. These four sessions were the most eventful and productive in months. In November, after waiting for nearly six months, UC finally gave us proposals on job stability (Article 7a) and Compensation (Article 21). On December 16 and 17, UC-AFT passed 22 articles in six packages, including a counter proposal on Article 7a, which is described in detail in this prezi.

Berkeley Announces Furloughs as Newsom Announces Funding Boost for UC
Governor Newsom’s 21-22 budget proposal announced on Friday boosts funding for UC in the coming year based on better than expected tax returns in 2020. Meanwhile, Berkeley has announced a furlough program for all staff for the remainder of 2021 and possibly beyond. Our librarian Contract Administration Group will meet with managers from UCOP and Berkeley on January 13 to discuss the proposed furlough plan, its application to our members and any impact Newsom’s proposed budget and new Federal assistance may have on implementation of the plan.

Librarians at UC Hastings College of Law Ratify New Four-Year Contract
UC-AFT librarians at UC Hastings have ratified a new four-year contract. The contract provides 3% annual raises, new language on flexible work arrangements, a streamlined annual performance review and promotion process, clarification of which Hastings policies apply to our members, and a COVID side letter. Congratulations to our bargaining team, Vince Moyer, Tony Pelczynski, Holly Herndon and UC-AFT Field Rep, Emily Rose, for securing a strong contract.
